Part 1: Creating a Pedigree File

Following is the pedigree of the AD family that you will be analyzing.  Notice that the numbers for markers were left off of the picture for simplicity  (Slashed lines though the symbol mean that the individual is deceased):

Now you must create a table for this AD family.  Some of the table is already filled in but you must supply the missing data.  Genetic marker data will be added at a later time.  A legend precedes the table to help you remember which numbers to put in the columns.  You must get all answers right to continue.

  • FAMILY: the family name (number)
  • ID#: the individual's ID number
  • FATHER: the ID# of the individual's father (If none listed, then use 0)
  • MOTHER: the ID# of the individual's mother (If none listed, then use 0)
  • SEX: male =1, female = 2
  • STATUS: phenotype (affected =2, unaffected =1, unknown=0)
